New portrait of Asia, Kivahan
Oriental portrait is not only limited just to simply draw the characters but also aimed to draw its spirit. In China, it was the best flowered in the Tang Dynasty. Same as in Korea, it began to emerge from the ancient tomb murals and led to important paintings in the field to early in the Joseon Dynasty. Portrait of the Joseon Dynasty exhibited a tendency to focus on facial expressions to describe the human psyche. The Joseon's portrait has an excellent field as high profile compared to other fields. I've always looked for example which is expressed for a modern technique of traditional portrait. I want to select Kivahan as a valuable example of it. Kivahan express the emotion of the modern Asians into simple brush lines. He lively expresses eastern sensibility by sketching on paper with a pencil and various brush lines passing by. To do that, light flowing in the faces is well used such as a photographer seeking a lovely picture of nature takes advantage of the strong sunshine and shadows on the huge land. Appearances likely to be passed by easily are shown again on a gloriously on the simple lines and can feel a warm-hearted toward target at the behind of it. Kivahan said that as I believe each human being has an appearance deservedly to be loved, with a lot of respect and love for the subject, it expressed as portraits of oriental techniques. Warm love toward the world dominates his mental world and those ideas are well to be seen on the paintings. And also Kivahan said that art can be powered and influenced in people feeling moved by empathy with subject. That's right. A person's face can be the eternal theme of art, as if to carefully monitor the other's eyes when we can talk. From Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa to van Gogh's self-portrait, many of great work were coming from the human faces so that it can be an important material to raise awareness of our sensibility. Now I'm so happy to see the wonderfully modern portrait of Asia.
